Mathile Abramson joined Kean Miller in 1988. Mathile practices in the areas of litigation and alternative dispute resolution. She works with clients in a wide variety of litigation and mediation matters. Her general practice includes gaming, asbestos, toxic tort, municipal, personal injury, contract, commercial and construction litigation. Recently, she has assisted clients in cases involving complex contract disputes, municipal litigation, wrongful death, RICO, employment law, and zoning.

She is a trained mediator, having completed the Arbitration and Mediation course at Harvard University, and other mediation courses. She serves as an arbitrator in the East Baton Rouge Parish City Court. She has been approved and serves as a mediator for the United States District Court, Middle District of Louisiana.

Mathile is experienced in all forms of alternative dispute resolution. Mathile has been a lecturer in mediation, professionalism, evidentiary matters and complex litigation. She has an AV Martindale Hubbell rating.

In the alternative dispute arena, Mathile has been involved in negotiations and mediations involving personal injury, wrongful death claims, industrial accidents, toxic tort, asbestos exposure, ADA issues, and complex contract and construction disputes. Her mediations have ranged from two-party to multi-party matters and from simple to complex litigation.

Mathile was a member of the Baton Rouge Bar Association Board for seven years. She also has served as its treasurer, secretary and president.

Representative Litigation Experience:

  • Representation of a parish governmental body in the successful defense of zoning issues.
  • Successful defense of an industrial client against claims for off-site personal injury of a third-party employee.
  • Successful ruling on companion cases dismissing RICO and Anti-Trust claims against a gaming client which were argued before and affirmed by the Third Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Education

Mathile attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She earned her B.A. from the Sophie Newcomb College at Tulane University in 1962 and was selected for membership in the Mortar Board. She earned her J.D. from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at LSU in 1988 where she was selected for Moot Court Board and served as Vice-Chairman of Moot Court Board. She was the 1988 Flory Trial winner. She has served as an Adjunct Professor of Appellate Advocacy at the LSU Law Center.
