Partner

Linda Akchin is a partner in the Baton Rouge office of Kean Miller. She joined the firm in 1986 and practices in the litigation group. Linda represents clients in the areas of commercial litigation, toxic tort defense, oil and gas disputes, and the underground storage of natural gas, petroleum, and other liquid and gaseous materials. Her practice includes oil field waste and contamination, tax litigation and controversy, sales and use tax, and pipeline expropriation, land use and property rights. She also has significant experience in wetlands loss and wetlands damage litigation.

Representative Experience

  • Representation of major oil companies in a number of oilfield pollution cases in south Louisiana, including field-wide class actions as well as individual private and public landowner claims, and involving claims for soil and groundwater remediation of exploration and production wastes, fear of cancer, stigma damages, diminution of property values, and punitive damages.
  • Representation of major industrial clients in wetlands loss cases throughout coastal Louisiana, involving claims for failure to restore, canal widening, and indirect land loss brought by private landowners and governmental entities.
  • Representation of a wide array of industrial and commercial clients, as well as trade associations, in all aspects of state and local tax at the administrative level as well as in litigation.
  • Representation of various pipeline companies in expropriation and other property law matters, including pipeline rights of way, underground storage of natural gas and surface rights throughout Louisiana and involving federal and state laws of eminent domain.
  • Representation of Louisiana Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association, Louisiana Oil and Gas Association and the American Petroleum Institute as amicus curiae in important oilfield contamination and wetlands loss cases.
  • Representation of numerous industrial clients in state and local tax litigation.
  • Representation of the Louisiana Chemical Association, Louisiana Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association, and Louisiana Independent Oil and Gas Association as amicus curiae in important state and local tax cases.
  • Representation of clients in complex matters involving underground storage of natural gas, petroleum, and other liquid and gaseous materials

Education

Linda earned her B.S., magna cum laude, from Louisiana State University in 1979. She earned her J.D. from the LSU Law Center in 1986 where she was a Law Review Candidate and graduated Order of the Coif.
