Shannan Rieger is an attorney in the Baton Rouge office of Kean Miller. Shannan practices in the litigation group. She represents clients in commercial and business litigation, environmental litigation, toxic tort defense and insurance defense.
Shannan has experience in commercial contract disputes, institutional reform litigation, antitrust litigation, commercial collection matters, Fair Housing Act litigation, and toxic tort litigation.
Representative Experience
- Representation of the State of Louisiana in a successful effort to terminate longstanding consent decree in a class action claim regarding conditions in all Louisiana prisons and in a successful effort to terminate longstanding consent decree regarding treatment of mentally ill and mentally retarded citizens of Louisiana.
- Successful representation of financial institutions in numerous commercial collection and lender liability matters.
- Successful representation of a multinational petrochemical company in a multi-million dollar class action toxic tort claim.
- Representation of a gaming industry client against a multi-million dollar antitrust and civil RICO claim.
- Successful defense of a financial institution client against consumer claims related to the consumers' purchases of credit related insurances.
- Successful representation of oil and gas clients in contract disputes.
- Representation of municipalities seeking to have statutes regarding statewide retirement system contributions declared unconstitutional.
Education
Shannan earned her B.S. from Louisiana State University in 1982. She earned her J.D. from the LSU Law Center in 1985 where she was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, a member of the Order of the Coif, and a member of the Louisiana Law Review. She served as a Law Clerk to the late Hon. John M. Shaw, U.S. District Judge, Western District of Louisiana, from 1985 to 1986.
