50,000 Dictionaries Distributed to Area Third-Grade Students

Kean Miller, in association with the Louisiana Resource Center for Educators (LRCE), launched an important community service project in 2002 -- The Kean Miller Dictionary Project.  Together with LRCE, the firm delivers personal dictionaries to third-grade students in public schools.  Importantly, third-grade is the year that educators believe that children begin to "read to learn" instead of "learn to read".  On Dictionary Day 2007 (Thursday, November 29) we marked the sixth year of the project.  Attorneys and paralegals from Kean Miller delivered personalized bags of dictionaries to third-grade classrooms and visited over 85 elementary schools.

From 2002 through 2007, Kean Miller has placed almost 50,000 free dictionaries into the hands of third-grade students in the East Baton Rouge, West Baton Rouge, Iberville, and Calcasieu Parish public school systems.  This is the only access many of these children have to this important learning tool.

As legal professionals, we deal in words and the meaning of words.  This project helps deliver the meaning of words to Louisiana schoolchildren who otherwise may not have access to this ciritical resource.
