Jason Brown is an associate attorney in the Baton Rouge office of Kean Miller.  He joined the firm in 2009 and practices in the state and local tax, and business and corporate practice groups.  Jason's practice focuses primarily on taxpayer advocacy and tax controversy matters.  He represents local, state and national clients in matters involving each of the taxes administered or assessed by the state and local taxing authorities and at each stage of the taxing process.  Jason has particular expertise in Sales/Use and Lease Tax issues, including audits and collection procedure. He represents taxpayers before the Louisiana Board of Tax Appeals, the Louisiana Tax Commission and Louisiana's state courts.  Jason also represents clients in a wide variety of business transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations and other general corporate matters, including governance issues.

Jason serves as an adjunct professor of law at the Southern University Law Center.  He frequently participates in mock trial, professionalism and other recruiting seminars at the law school level.

Education

Jason earned his B.A. in Political Science, magna cum laude, in 1998 from Southern University where he served as President of the Student Government Association and as a member of the Southern University System's Board of Supervisors.  He earned his J.D., cum laude, in 2001 from Southern University Law Center where he was named to the National Law School Dean's List and served as associate editor of the Southern University Law Review.
