Lyn Savoie is an associate attorney in the Baton Rouge office of Kean Miller.  She joined the firm in 2003 and practices in the firm’s health care regulatory group. She assists health care providers with administrative, transactional and regulatory matters, including HIPAA compliance, defense of Medicare and Medicaid audits, and fraud and abuse prevention. She represents physicians, physician groups, durable medical equipment companies, rehabilitation agencies, physician assistants, and various other types of other health care providers.  She also represents businesses who work with the health care industry, such as medical billing companies and the State-designated health information exchange.

Lyn is listed in Louisiana Super Lawyers as a Rising Star in Health Care for 2013 and 2014.

Representative Experience

  • Represented HIPAA covered entities in responding to investigations conducted by the Department of Health and Human Services, Office for Civil Rights (OCR)
  • Handled various licensing matters before Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, including assisting adult residential care providers and home and community based services providers with changes of ownership (CHOWs)
  • Advised individuals and entities regarding the applicability of HIPAA/HITECH, including assistance with risk assessments and drafting HIPAA-compliant policies (reviewed and approved by OCR), procedures, and agreements
  • Provided advice to clients on application of the Stark law and the state and federal Anti-Kickback statutes to various proposed business arrangements
  • Represented health care clients on a wide range of regulatory and business matters, including the impact of federal and Louisiana laws on joint venture arrangements
  • Worked on legal team defending qui tam (whistleblower) actions
  • Negotiated settlements of Medicare and Medicaid audits
  • Drafted and negotiated terms of numerous transactional documents on behalf of health care clients, including: professional service agreements, management agreements, medical director agreements, recruitment agreements, and physician employment agreements


Lyn earned her B.S. in Communications, cum laude, from Southern Methodist University in 1997.  She earned her J.D., cum laude, in 2003 from Tulane University Law School where she was associate editor of Tulane Law Review.  She also served as Executive Secretary, Vice President (1L) and President (3L) of the Student Bar Association and was a member of Phi Delta Phi and Omicron Delta Kappa.  Lyn served as the 2003 Tulane University Commencement Soloist and student speaker at the 2003 Tulane Law School Diploma Ceremony.  She is listed in Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
