Chase E. Zachary

Chase Zachary is an associate in the Baton Rouge office of Kean Miller where he practices in the environmental litigation, commercial litigation, and intellectual property groups.

Chase has represented industry leaders in the oil and gas, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical fields in state and federal litigation, and administrative proceedings. His practice spans all levels of trial and appellate litigation.

Prior to joining the firm in 2016, Chase served as a law clerk for the Honorable David B. Sentelle on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. He previously worked as an associate with an international law firm in New York City.

Representative Experience

  • Defense of Fortune 100 oil and gas company in docket of "legacy" lawsuits against claims of environmental damages, breaches of mineral and surface leases, and violations of the Louisiana Mineral Code
  • Defense of pipeline companies against land loss claims alleging failure to maintain pipeline canals
  • Representation of oil and gas companies before the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources
  • Representation of aviation services provider in proceedings before the Georgia Tax Tribunal, including successful defense against pretrial motion to dismiss tax refund claims
  • Representation of biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies in patent infringement litigation and in proceedings before the U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board

Education

Chase earned his B.S., summa cum laude, from Southern Methodist University in 2006. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Princeton University in 2011 and his J.D., magna cum laude, from New York University School of Law in 2014, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif, a Florence Allen Scholar, and a Richard L. Posen Scholar.
