Human Resources Manager - Baton Rouge

Kean Miller is seeking a highly-motivated, experienced, hands-on Human Resources Manager who inspires others to action. This position is located in the firm’s Baton Rouge office and requires routine travel to all offices as needed. The Human Resources team is a highly-collaborative, strategic and innovative group of professionals with a broad range of knowledge encompassing recruiting, benefits, diversity and inclusion, professional development and operational expertise. Working in collaboration with the firm’s leadership team and under the direction of the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) the team is committed to providing HR services that fosters and enhances the firm’s People First culture.

Employee Relations
  • Listens, communicates often, sets clear goals, fosters collaboration and diversity, provides honest and timely feedback to employees and addresses performance issues directly while maintaining a high level of sensitivity and confidentiality
  • Supports firm supervisors and officers by providing advice with regard to employee performance issues 
  • Under the direction of Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), investigates employee complaints (e.g. harassment, discrimination, unfair treatment and other violations of firm policy) 
  • In collaboration with the CHRO, manages disciplinary process and prepares written summaries of counseling sessions to ensure personnel files are properly documented
  • Manages voluntary and involuntary separations; participates in termination meetings as necessary
  • Maintains the job description library, ensuring up-to-date job descriptions for all positions
  • Ensures employee handbook, law clerk handbook and attorney handbook are up-to-date
  • Keeps a strong pulse on employee engagement by monitoring employee needs, gaining  insights through employee off-boarding and exit interviews
Talent Management
  • Works with the HR team to recruit, interview, hire and on-board support staff throughout the firm
  • Conducts 90-day follow up meetings with newly hired staff, identifies and addresses any issues
  • Performance Management
  • Coordinates and oversees the annual performance review process for all support staff , reviews all evaluations to ensure content is consistent, identifies performance issues and develops a performance improvement plan in conjunction with the employees’ supervisor, delivers performance evaluations and conducts follow up meetings as necessary
Benefits
  • Assists the HR Benefits Supervisor as needed with the administration of the firm’s benefits programs  

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
  • Five years’ experience in Human Resources with core generalist experience
  • Two years’ supervisory experience
  • PHR certification preferred 
  • Prior experience with an HRIS, benefits administration and payroll system preferred. 
  • Knowledge of all relevant federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements, both adopted and pending, affecting employee benefits programs and employment law, including ERISA, COBRA, ACA, PCORI, FMLA, FLSA, USERRA, EEO, ADA, Section 125, Medicare, Social Security,  workers' compensation, and DOL requirements

  • Ability to quickly identify problems and bring issues to resolution, in collaboration with partners and senior management
  • Ability to deal positively with adversity and difficult situations
  • Ability to travel as necessary
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
