Intellectual Property Staff Attorney – Office Location Flexible

Kean Miller seeks a reduced hour, part time or contract intellectual property attorney with 4+ years of IP experience at a major law firm, boutique IP firm or corporation, involving patent prosecution, intellectual property licensing and/or IP litigation. A solid understanding of patent and trademarks laws and demonstrated project management capabilities required. Patent prosecution experience a plus. 

This attorney will serve in client counseling, patent drafting, researching and drafting litigation documents, and opinion letters.  Must be admitted in Louisiana and/or Texas with registration to practice before the USPTO strongly preferred; patent bar eligibility is a requirement. This person can work in our New Orleans, Houston, The Woodlands, or Baton Rouge office.

  • Preparing, prosecuting, and managing a docket of patent and trademark applications.
  • Client coordination and communication.
  • Managing and coordinating international patent and trademark filings and communicating with foreign counsel.
  • Overseeing, editing, and approving patent and trademark clearance searches and opinion letters.
  • Drafting and responding to cease and desist letters.
  • Assisting in IP litigation.
  • Overseeing, editing, and approving maintenance documents with the USPTO with assistance of paralegals.  
  • Maintaining an understanding of basic general counsel principles.
Requirements: JD from an accredited law school. Bachelor of Science (or higher) degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Petroleum Engineering, or a related field a plus Admission to the Patent Bar is preferred. Texas or Louisiana bar license required.
