McClain Schonekas is an associate in the New Orleans office of Kean Miller. He joined the firm in 2014 and practices in the business and corporate group. Prior to law school, McClain worked in real estate and real estate finance in North Carolina and New York. He worked for a major commercial bank’s investment bank in the areas of commercial mortgage backed securities and historic and low income tax credits. He also worked for a student housing developer opening up an office for the company in central New York. After a year of practicing law at Kean Miller, McClain left the firm to serve as a law clerk to the Honorable Edith Brown Clement on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit (2015-2016). He rejoined the firm in September 2016.
Assisted stevedoring company in a multi-million dollar asset purchase of cranes, vessels, and other equipment from a competitor. Assisted in the negotiation and preparation of asset purchase agreement, consulting and employment agreements, bareboat charter agreements, leases, and other deal related documents.
Assisted a client in the purchase of assets from an energy company, including titled vehicles, equipment, and other assets. Assisted in the negotiation and preparation of asset purchase agreements, employment agreements, and other transactional documents.
Assisted an energy industry client in arresting ocean-going tankers to secure recovery of funds owed to it for supply of fuel bunkers to the vessels under admiralty and maritime claim rules of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure
Assisted a global energy producer in resolving dispute between the company, as operator, and its non-operating interest holders regarding joint-interest-billing amounts owed resulting from a drilling accident and subsequent actions taken by operator
McClain earned his B.B.A. from the University of Georgia in 2007. He earned his J.D./G.D.C.L., magna cum laude, from the LSU Law Center in 2014, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and a Senior Editor of the Louisiana Law Review. McClain was named to the Chancellor's list and received the CALI award in Legal Research and Writing, Louisiana Civil Procedure and Family Law of Persons. He is also a founding member and Vice President of the Louisiana Business and Law Society, an organization committee to strengthening the connection between law and business.
