Michael Sankey is senior counsel in The Woodlands office of Kean Miller. He joined the firm in 2019 and practices in the oil and gas group.
Prior to law school, Michael worked as a landman in Carlsbad, New Mexico and Midland, Texas, where he gained experience examining private, State, and Federal leasehold title. Subsequent to his experience as a landman, Michael worked as a Midstream Acquisitions Consultant to a Fortune 500 Energy and Production Company where he gained hundreds of Federal and State easements, rights-of-ways, and other permits.
During law school and upon graduation, Michael worked for a firm focused on litigation where he successfully represented clients in property and contract claims and most notably secured victories in the Texarkana and Dallas Courts of Appeals.
Michael is also a Veteran of the United States Army where he served as a Sergeant to the JAG Corp in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. During his time in Afghanistan, Michael participated in a detainee abuse trial and provided legal support to a base of thousands of soldiers. For his efforts in Afghanistan, Michael was awarded the Army Commendation Medal. Michael was Honorably Discharged in 2007.
Michael earned his BBA, summa cum laude, from St. Edwards University in 2007 and his MBA, with a concentration in Management, from Sam Houston State University in 2014. He earned his J.D. from Texas A&M University School of Law in 2017, where he was a member of the Texas A&M Law Review.
