"I advise clients on data privacy, cybersecurity, and emerging technology matters, providing practical solutions that safeguard sensitive information, reduce regulatory risk, and ensure compliance."

Haley (formerly Haley Zhu-Butler) focuses her practice on data privacy and cybersecurity matters, advising clients on compliance, risk management, and emerging technology issues. She also has experience in mass tort and business litigation, including breach of contract, pre-judgment recovery negotiations, post-judgment collections, solvency strategy, and advisory services for local businesses.

Haley has led large-scale scientific compliance and causation investigations, collaborating with cross-functional teams and leveraging data analytics and industry insight to translate technical findings into actionable legal strategies. At her prior firm, Haley served as AI Compliance Officer, overseeing the responsible use of generative AI in legal practice and developing internal and client-facing permissible usage policies addressing privacy and confidentiality concerns.

Before joining the firm, Haley gained extensive litigation and policy experience. As a law student, she represented clients facing felony charges as a Student Practitioner in the Criminal Defense Clinic. While earning her master’s degree, Haley researched the risks of algorithmic bias when utilizing AI for judgments based on human behavior, focusing on the effects of black box algorithms on bail determinations. She also worked with the Capital Appeals Project and The Promise of Justice Initiative, where she investigated death penalty cases, organized public policy campaigns, and founded Louisiana Survivors for Reform, a coalition advocating for criminal justice reform in Louisiana from the perspective of survivors of violence. Haley’s advocacy included legislative testimony, policy drafting, and mitigation strategies that resulted in reduced sentences for death row clients.
