"As a litigator with a four-decade history of advocating for the rights of healthcare professionals, I have acquired a deep understanding of where medicine and the law intersect. As a result, I work to combine both fields to enhance the presentation of evidence that will best tell the story on behalf of the healthcare provider."

Vance Gibbs has practiced in commercial litigation and malpractice defense, particularly in the healthcare sector, for more than four decades. He represents doctors, medical professionals, physician groups, and clinics faced with serious medical malpractice claims, including medical review panel proceedings, lawsuits, peer review hearings, and credentialing matters. He provides general legal advice to physicians and physician groups regarding self-insurance programs, risk management and prevention, and healthcare administration.

As a litigator, Vance is widely respected for his superior understanding of the technical aspects of healthcare law and medical malpractice defense. His strength is his ability to present medical issues in ways that judges and juries can understand. Vance knows the risks associated with the various state and federal courts across the region and nationally when it comes to resolving complex healthcare and business-related lawsuits and leverages his decades of litigation experience and industry insight when defending doctors and businesses faced with serious malpractice and commercial claims.

In addition to his active commercial and healthcare litigation practice, Vance brings extensive skill to defending product liability claims involving a wide variety of medical products, medical devices, and pharmaceuticals.

Notably, Vance is passionate about the art of advocacy and persuasion. In 2010 he was inducted into the American College of Trial Advocacy. Early in his career he completed the National Institute of Trial Advocacy’s Masters Trial Advocacy Program. He has been a member of the planning committee and an instructor for the Trial Advocacy Program for the last fifteen years at the LSU Law Center. Also, Vance regularly teaches medical students and medical residents about medical-legal issues and is a frequent speaker and educator on the topics of risk management, medical malpractice defense, and trial advocacy.

Vance has also been involved in several healthcare-related non-profit organizations. In response to his son’s diagnosis with Crohn’s disease, he served the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation for more than two decades in various leadership positions, including as Chair of the National Board of Trustees.
