Kean Miller will host its highly popular Employment Law Forum on Friday, October 30 in The Lawton Room in LSU’s Tiger Stadium. Registration and breakfast will begin at 8 a.m. followed by the first of three presentations at 8:45 a.m. The program will conclude with a networking lunch and optional tour of Tiger Stadium at 1:00 p.m.
The program is approved for 3.0 CLE hours by the Louisiana State Bar Association and is valid for 3.0 CPE hours and 3.0 PDC toward SHRM-CAP and SHRM-SCP recertification.
In the first presentation, Ed Hardin and Elizabeth Bueche will speak with attendees to determine if their employee handbooks are a useful tool or a ticking time bomb. Handbooks can be a helpful communication tool, but they can also describe practices that have long since ceased, may not reflect current practices and legal requirements, and may even contain policies that are unlawful. Their presentation will address employee handbooks from soup to nuts.
Sonny Chastain and Shearil Matthews will explore AI in the workplace as itβs transforming the modern workplace while creating new opportunities and challenges for employers. The presentation will examine key employment issues arising from the use of AI by both employers and employees β and explore the evolving legal framework employers need to navigate.
Prior to lunch, David Whitaker and Chelsea Caswell will conclude the presentations by answering questions around the Louisiana Wage Payment Act. Attendees will walk away with a better understanding of the core requirements of the Act, including when wages are considered to be earned for purposes of the Act, when wages are due and how they must be paid, the 90-day penalty wage provisions of the Act, and defenses employers have against wage payment claims.
