Lana Crump plays a critical role in providing legal advice and guidance to the firm’s Management Team, Management Committee, Managing Partner, and various firm committees. She is responsible for overseeing all legal aspects of the firm’s operations, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards, and advising on the mitigation of risk inherent in operating a commercial law firm.
Lana works closely with firm partners, attorneys, and business professionals by guiding them on various matters and assisting in the development and implementation of their strategic initiatives. She determines and procures professional liability and other firm insurance policies, directs the firm and its professionals through ethics issues and conflict resolution, and assists individual attorneys with client-related issues and/or problem-solving.
Moreover, Lana analyzes the legal implications of business decisions and proposes proactive solutions grounded in the highest level of integrity. She is called upon to develop and implement new and existing internal governance policies and procedures while also evaluating the potential risks and legal impact associated with the firm’s actions and decisions. Lana also drafts and reviews firm agreements, contracts, and other legal documents with the goal of safeguarding firm investments across all contractual arrangements.
On a personal level, Lana is dedicated to fostering a culture of true excellence in an environment of continuous learning and improvement. An effective communicator, trusted confidante, and conscientious problem-solver, Lana leads by example and is appreciated and respected for her ability to identify potential legal problems before they evolve into barriers to success.
Prior to serving as Kean Miller’s General Counsel, Lana was a successful litigator and trial advocate. On attack or defense, she advocated the rights of clients involved in toxic and mass tort actions, business litigation, financial services litigation, federal civil rights cases, local government and land use matters, and property, life, health, and disability insurance litigation.
Lana is particularly skilled in class action litigation involving chemical exposures and catastrophic accidents. She represented companies and individuals in all areas of business disputes and contract litigation and defended life and disability claims for insurance companies. Lana also advised municipalities on issues involving municipal, land use, constitutional, and civil rights law matters.
Lana has served on the firm’s Ethics and Conflicts Resolution Committee for several decades and is past Chair of the committee. She continues to provide counsel and advice to lawyers and firms facing ethical dilemmas – using her litigation experience in handling matters involving complex issues in lawyer ethics, including disqualification motions, legal fee disputes, privilege, conflicts of interest issues, and legal malpractice cases.
