Our primary recruiting effort consists of on-campus interviews in the fall and spring and in-office interviews with students from other law schools around the country. Our Recruiting Committee, co-chaired by Beau Bourgeois and Amanda Howard Lowe, in conjunction with our Chief Human Resources Officer, Mary Coghlan, is composed of Partners and Associates from various practice groups.

Associates in our firm can expect meaningful support and comprehensive training, early involvement in cases, direct client engagement and substantive responsibility in key client matters. Like many firms, our Associates are guided and developed by their supervising partner. But unlike many firms, our Associates are assigned a mentor who is unconnected to their practice group. This mentor provides advice and counsel on the things they don’t teach in law school. Associates receive consistent and regular feedback from our Associate Evaluation Committee, including their progression on partnership track.

When an Associate is hired as a Partnership Track Attorney, they receive a clearly defined document that outlines the path to partnership. Associates are given a specific year they are eligible for partnership consideration. This transparency provides Associates with clarity and confidence as they develop as lawyers on the path to partnership.

Development

An Associates development doesn’t end when law school does. Kean Miller is committed to providing Associates with training opportunities necessary to develop your skills and knowledge to serve our clients and grow your career. Throughout the year, the firm provides highly rated training programs from our Professional Development Committee. These programs include in-house and outside speakers, formal and informal training, practice specific training, firmwide training from nationally recognized training resources, such as National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA) and Practicing Law Institute (PLI). From substantive aspects of practicing law to business development skills and from technology tools to working with others, our training efforts are consistent and meaningful.

Feedback

Our Associate Evaluation Committee (AEC) is dedicated to providing an exceptional work environment that allows an Associate to flourish. The AEC coordinates annual evaluations with the Associates to provide substantive feedback about their progress in acquiring the skills necessary to succeed at the firm. The AEC ensures that Associates are receiving work that allows them to have a wide range of expertise and depth.
