Career Opportunities

Summer Associates

At Kean Miller, we recruit many of our Partnership Track Associates through our Summer Associate Program. We seek individuals with exceptional academic credentials and distinguished personal accomplishments, while also valuing the broader qualities that make each candidate unique. Kean Miller believes in a people-first approach. We are deeply committed to a collaborative and inclusive culture. We thrive on intentional recruiting, seeking individuals with varied, well-rounded backgrounds and perspectives. Kean Miller believes that diverse backgrounds lead to better decision-making and more flexible solutions for our clients. The firm is committed to investing in individuals and retaining top talent from the very beginning. Numerous Partners have chosen to build lifelong careers at Kean Miller, joining the firm as first-year associates.

Our Summer Associate Program provides law students with a hands-on introduction to the practice of law in a collaborative and supportive environment. The program offers a unique opportunity for students to experience life as a young associate. At Kean Miller, Summer Associates do not simply watch from the sidelines – they are involved in meaningful legal work from day one.

Orientation

Kean Miller’s Summer Associate experience begins with a formal, firm-wide orientation held in-person at our downtown Baton Rouge office. This foundational experience introduces Summer Associates to the firm’s history, collaborative culture, and core values. It provides opportunities to connect with attorneys across practice areas and office locations, gain insight into life as a Kean Miller attorney, and receive the tools and knowledge needed for a successful and rewarding clerkship experience.

Projects/Assignments

As a Summer Associate, you can expect to gain hands-on, practical experience by working on real, substantive projects assigned directly by our attorneys. At Kean Miller, we make it a priority to align projects with each Summer Associate’s unique interests. These assignments will vary in complexity and across practice areas. We encourage each individual to share which practice areas they are most interested in exploring to ensure a rewarding experience. Summer Associates will also have the opportunity to observe depositions, in-office client meetings, hearings and even attend site visits.

Mentorship

Kean Miller believes that mentorship is essential to the growth and development of future attorneys. Each Summer Associate will receive both a Partner Mentor and an Associate Mentor to ensure a smooth integration into the firm. Mentors serve as trusted advisors and valuable resource throughout the program. Our Mentorship Program creates a supportive environment where Summer Associates can ask questions, build meaningful relationships, and better understand the firm’s culture and expectations. Our Mentorship Program is an invaluable component that truly sets Kean Miller apart.

Activities/Social Events

Social events are an integral part of Kean Miller’s Summer Associate Program and help showcase our collaborative, team-oriented culture. Summer Associates can look forward to weekly mentor and practice group lunches, happy hours, dinners, bus trips and more. We believe these events are key to building meaningful relationships with attorneys and fellow law students in a relaxed and engaging setting.
