Vance Gibbs Inducted into American College of Trial Lawyers

Kean Miller LLP is pleased to announce that Vance A. Gibbs, a partner in the Baton Rouge office, has become a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.  The American College of Trial Lawyer is widely considered to be the premier professional organization composed of preeminent trial lawyers in the United States and Canada.   He was inducted into the College at its Spring Meeting on March 2, 2009 in Fajardo, Puerto Rico and was one of 81 new Fellows inducted.  The College has over 5,700 active members.  

Founded in 1950, the College is composed of the best of the trial bar from the United States and Canada. Fellowship in the College is limited to the top one percent of the total lawyer population of any state. Fellowship status is extended by invitation only, after careful investigation, to those experienced trial lawyers who have mastered the art of advocacy and whose professional careers have been marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism, civility and collegiality. Lawyers must have a minimum of 15 years’ trial experience before they may be considered for Fellowship.

About Vance Gibbs:

Mr. Gibbs is a partner in the Baton Rouge office of Kean Miller LLP.  He has practiced in the commercial litigation arena and the health care industry for over 25 years.  Mr. Gibbs was named one of the 2009 Best Lawyers in America in the field of medical malpractice defense.  Mr. Gibbs represents doctors, medical professionals, physician groups and clinics in all manners of medical malpractice claims including medical review panel proceedings, lawsuits, peer review hearings and credentialing matters.  He also provides general legal advice to physicians and physician groups on self-insurance programs, risk management and administration.  He has extensive experience in the defense of product liability claims with regard to a wide variety of medical products, medical devices and pharmaceuticals.   Mr. Gibbs also has an active general and commercial litigation, and construction litigation practice, representing many Fortune 500 companies.  He has been a member of the Medical/Legal Interprofessional Committee of the Louisiana State Bar Association, and is a member of the Litigation Section of the American Bar Association and Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel.  He is a frequent speaker on the topic of medical malpractice and risk management and trial advocacy.  Mr. Gibbs has completed the National Institute of Trial Advocacy’s Masters Trial Advocacy Program and for the last seven years has been an instructor for the Trial Advocacy Program at LSU Law School.
