Charles McCowan Inducted into American College of Trial Lawyers

Kean Miller LLP is pleased to announce that Charles S. McCowan, Jr., a senior partner in the Baton Rouge office, has become a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTL).  The ACTL is widely considered to be one of the premier professional organizations composed of preeminent trial lawyers in the United States and Canada.   Mr. McCowan was inducted into the College at its Annual Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts in October 2009. 

Founded in 1950, the College is composed of the best of the trial bar from the United States and Canada. Fellowship in the College is limited to the top one percent of the total lawyer population of any state. Fellowship status is extended by invitation only, after careful investigation, to those experienced trial lawyers who have mastered the art of advocacy and whose professional careers have been marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism, civility and collegiality. Lawyers must have a minimum of 15 years’ trial experience before they may be considered for Fellowship.  The ACTL has over 5,700 active members.  

About Charles McCowan

Charles S. McCowan, Jr. is a founding member of Kean Miller LLP.  Charles has more than 40 years of legal experience.   In addition to his induction into the American College of Trial Lawyers, Charles is a Fellow of the International Society of Barristers, the Louisiana Bar Foundation, and a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and Master Emeritus of the Henry George McMahon American Inn of Court.  He is AV-rated, listed in Chambers USA,  and has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America (Woodward /White, Inc.) for over 10 years in mass tort litigation and personal injury defense.

He also served in the United States Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps as a prosecutor, defense counsel and military judge.   Charles earned his B.S. from Louisiana State University in 1964.  He earned his J.D. from the LSU Law Center in 1967 where he was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Delta Phi, and the Order of the Coif. He served as a Staff Writer for the Louisiana Law Review from 1965 to 1967.  Charles was inducted into the LSU Law School Hall of Fame in 1987.
