Four Kean Miller Partners Named Baton Rouge Lawyers of the Year by Best Lawyers

About Len Kilgore (Baton Rouge Lawyer of the Year – Environmental Litigation)

Leonard L. “Len” Kilgore is a partner in the Baton Rouge office of Kean Miller.  He is one of the founding members of the firm and has more than 30 years of experience in complex litigation, including experience in environmental and toxic tort litigation, and class actions. Len represents local, national and international commercial, energy and industrial clients in litigation involving toxic tort claims, personal injury, property damage claims, and class actions. Much of the litigation he has handled requires the development of complex expert testimony and scientific evidence.  Len earned his B.A. from Louisiana State University in 1973.  He earned his J.D. in 1976 from the LSU Law Center where he was a member of the Louisiana Law Review and Phi Kappa Phi.  He has served as an Adjunct Professor teaching Louisiana Environmental Law at the Tulane University Law School.

About Maureen Harbourt (Baton Rouge Lawyer of the Year – Environmental Law)

Maureen N. Harbourt is a partner in the Baton Rouge office of Kean Miller.  She joined the firm in 1983 and has over 25 years of experience in Louisiana environmental law.  Maureen represents local, national and international industrial and commercial clients in a wide variety of substantive environmental areas such as Title V, PSD and CSAPR air permitting, emissions trading, greenhouse gas and climate change,  stratospheric ozone regulation, underground injection including gas storage and carbon sequestration projects, hazardous waste and remediation, RECAP, environmental compliance and audits, environmental aspects of project financing, due diligence and environmental issues in mergers, acquisitions and reorganizations, and with respect to regulatory and legislative development.  Maureen works with the Louisiana Chemical Association and other trade associations and individual clients with regard to environmental permitting and project planning, as well as rulemaking and legislative issues.  She regularly advises clients with regarding to compliance issues. Maureen has particular experience in creating in-plant environmental training programs.  Maureen also works extensively with other members of the firm on energy and alternative energy development projects.  Maureen is a founding member of the firm’s Diversity Council and regularly participates in activities to encourage diversity within the legal profession.  She is listed as one of Baton Rouge Business Report's nine most Influential Women in Business for 2010.  Maureen earned her B.A. from Louisiana State University in 1979.  She earned her J.D. in 1982 from the LSU Law Center where she was a staff writer for the Louisiana Law Review.

About Katherine King (Baton Rouge Lawyer of the Year – Administrative / Regulatory Law)

Katherine W. King is a partner in the Baton Rouge office of Kean Miller.  She joined the firm in 1989.  Katherine has more than 20 years of experience before the Louisiana Public Service Commission (LPSC) with a focus on the regulation of Louisiana’s electric, telecommunications and pipeline industries.  She has provided project development and electric regulatory advice with respect to a number of renewable generation projects. Katherine also serves as counsel to the Louisiana Energy Users Group (LEUG), an intervention group whose members are major industrial companies and represents electric generators and project developers in regulatory proceedings before the LPSC in individual contract negotiations and project development.  Katherine has been heavily involved in advising generator clients with respect to generation project structures that satisfy client needs while complying with both Federal energy regulatory law and LPSC requirements, and interconnection issues.  She also advises retail customer clients with respect to power supply contracts, electric regulatory compliance, and she represents these clients before the LPSC in electric utility rate proceedings.  Katherine earned her B.S. from Louisiana State University in 1976. She earned her J.D. from the LSU Law Center in 1981. She served as a law clerk to the Hon. Elven E. Ponder of the First Circuit Court of Appeal of Louisiana from 1981 to 1984 and to the Hon. John V. Parker, United States  District Court, Middle District of Louisiana, from 1984 to 1986.   Katherine is a Certified Cogeneration Professional (2000).

About Dean Cazenave (Baton Rouge Lawyer of the Year – Mergers & Acquisitions)

Dean P. Cazenave is a partner in the Baton Rouge office of Kean Miller.  He has more than 21 years of experience in corporate, business and real estate law.  Dean represents clients in a variety of corporate, finance, and commercial real estate transactions.  These transactions include general commercial contracts, such as license agreements, employment agreements, supply agreements, and strategic alliance agreements.  Dean also has experience in transactions such as mergers and acquisitions and private placements.  Dean earned his B.S., summa cum laude, from Louisiana Tech University in 1987.  He earned his J.D., cum laude, in 1990 from Loyola University New Orleans School of Law where he was a member of the Loyola Law Review.
